As December begins, the entire state of West Bengal, including the capital Kolkata, experiences an unusual rise in temperatures alongside lingering mild cold conditions. According to a statement from the Meteorological Department issued on Friday, Kolkata's minimum temperature has exceeded 20 degrees Celsius, reaching 20.1 degrees Celsius, three degrees higher than the normal range.
The maximum temperature in the capital is recorded at 29 degrees Celsius, contributing to a gradual increase in temperatures not only in Kolkata but also in neighboring areas such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura. Additionally, the Bay of Bengal's low-pressure system near the state raises the possibility of rain along the coastal regions, with forecasts suggesting rainfall until the end of the week.
The Meteorological Department alerts residents of potential rain in coastal regions, extending from Kolkata to areas like Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, and East and West Medinipur until Sunday.
However, North Bengal districts like Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong continue to experience cold weather. The unexpected temperature surge in West Bengal prompts concerns about the impact on daily life and local climate patterns.
